PITTSBURGH – April 21, 2016 – Pittsburgh-based ground improvement specialists Menard Group USA were
recently awarded a contract to install controlled modulus column (CMC) rigid inclusions for The Hub, a new
multimodal facility in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District.
The Hub, which will include a parking facility that will provide an additional 575 parking spaces, 100 bike spaces,
retail stores and a space for kayak storage, is part of 3 Crossings, a $122 million, 16-acre urban development project
owned by Oxford Development Company.
Menard will install CMC rigid inclusions under the spread footings that will support The Hub’s columns. The Hub is
located on a former industrial site that was once occupied by a steel milling corporation, a forging facility and a
chemical distribution company.
“The new development in this area is going to cause a real demand for parking, said Dave Sandstrom, Regional
Sales Manager, Menard Group USA. “This project is going to have a big impact on servicing that need.”
Menard has been actively focused on growing their local Pittsburgh market. They recently completed work on
ACTION-Housing and the Autism Housing Development Corporation’s new apartment complex just a few blocks from
their corporate headquarters in Carnegie, Pennsylvania.
In addition, two new Pittsburgh-based sales engineers joined the team to cover the local region. John Malizia, who
recently completed his Master’s degree at Kent University in Engineering Geology and service with the US Marines
and Miranda Slomkowski, previously of Schnabel Engineering, joined the Menard Group USA in the last year.
“We’re happy to be working here in our local community,” said Frederic Masse, President, Menard Group USA. “It’s
an exciting time to be in the construction industry in Pittsburgh, and it’s great to be part of it.”
