PITTSBURGH – September 25, 2017– Ground improvement specialists Menard Group USA were recently awarded the contract to support a new, state-of-the-art distribution facility at 429 Delancy Street in Newark, New Jersey.
The project site, a former refinery, required massive demolition of buildings and their foundations before ground improvement work for the new warehouse could begin.
Menard’s portion of the ground improvement contract includes the installation of more than 7,000 controlled modulus
column (CMC) rigid inclusions to support the new facility. CMCs will be installed using multiple rigs to depths of 25-40 feet.
“By working closely with the site contractor to obtain in-place survey information of existing foundations and piles that
are either removed or will remain in place, we were able to come up with a ground improvement system that
economically avoids conflicts and reduces time dealing with obstructions,” said J.W. Ramp, Project Manager, Menard Group USA. “Our crews are great at working on these large warehouse projects, where we can implement multiple rigs working in tandem to accelerate schedules for our client.”
Because of the project site’s proximity to some of the Newark Liberty Airport’s runways, special safety precautions will be taken when raising and lowering the masts of the CMC rigs.
“We’ve worked on close to 20 projects in close proximity to airports, so we are very familiar with working with the airport personnel and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),” said Frederic Masse, President, Menard Group USA. “We are often working near active runways, in fact we just successfully completed a project with similar safety requirements next to Teterboro Airport, also in New Jersey.”
Menard’s work at the Delancy Street site will continue through the fall.
