PITTSBURGH – April 12, 2017– Pittsburgh-based geotechnical firm Menard Group USA was recently awarded the third contract for ground improvement for New Jersey’s massive I-295 Direct Connection project.
The project, located in Camden County, New Jersey, is targeted toward making one of the busiest interchanges in the state safer and more efficient through the construction of several alternative ramp configurations that will allow traffic to travel directly over the interchange without the need for lane changes or exit ramps. The overall project includes a total of ten new bridges, one bridge widening, one bridge rehabilitation, two temporary bridge structures and 22 retaining walls.
Chris Parinella, Vice President of Operations, oversaw Menard’s work on the first two phases of the project. “The work that the New Jersey DOT is doing to make travel easier and safer for motorists is really remarkable, said Parinella. “We’ve really enjoyed being part of this team, and we’re looking forward to digging into Contract 3.”
This is the third consecutive contract for Menard on the Direct Connection project, having worked on the first two phases of the project as well. The most recent contract includes the installation of controlled modulus column (CMC) rigid inclusions to maximum depths of up to 75 feet to support embankment fills or MSE (retaining) walls.
“We couldn’t be more proud to be back on this job,” said Frederic Masse, President, Menard Group USA. “As a safety-focused company, it’s an honor for Menard to be a part of a project that is going above and beyond the normal measures taken to ensure public safety.”
Construction on the Direct Connection project began in March 2013 and will continue into 2023. Menard is currently returning to the site to wrap up work on the second contract. Their work for the third contract will begin this summer.
